Transportation Sector Model for China

In the past decades, transportation sector has developed rapidly in China. Up to 2011, there have been more than 100 million vehicles in China. Transportation sector becomes one of the most important sources of air pollutants and CO2. Meanwhile, with the fast development of transportation, terrible traffic jams much impact people’s daily life. It has become a big challenge for the sector to do research and make plan that how to both maintain the development of transportation sector, and support the domestic energy saving, pollutants and GHG emission reduction.


Quantitative analysis of future development is now one of the important methodologies for strategic decision for the transportation sector in China. This project developed a quantitative analysis model of transportation sector. The model can do scenario analysis of the future development pathways of transportation sector, mostly focusing on energy and environmental factors.


The model could support the division of different traffic patterns and the sub-sectors. According to different traffic patterns, there are more than 70 traffic technologies covered in the model, including both existing and future technologies. The model can analyze traffic scenarios, and give the results of energy demand, air pollutants (CO, NOx, PM) emission, and GHG (CO2) emission from transportation sector.


The project was launched in Nov 2011, and ended successfully in Nov 2013.
